Beltane 2017 – Frequently Asked Questions

To coincide with the launch of Beltane 2017 – Open the Doors I have answered a few questions that I have been asked about the upcoming event over the past two (2) Gliding Seal Events Inc. gatherings

Will you be doing a Beltane Gathering in 2017?

To start with the answer was no and for the most part it hasn’t changed, considering that the 2017 edition of the AWC was being held south of Sydney and the relative costs involved in gatherings we were going to let 2017 go by. But then we started to hear from the community how much they enjoyed and the Beltane gatherings and how disappointed they were at a Beltane event not running, being the people pleases we are, we decided to find a way to work around that, so we came up with the idea for a Beltane event.

Whats the difference between a Gathering and an Event ?

There are a couple, firstly a gathering for us is an event where the goal is to create a space for a community to grow, and that involves a period of time where people are resident at the event. We know that sounds kind technical, but to break it down a gathering is an event you stay a night or more at an event is something you can turn up to and go home.

What is the theme for the Beltane 2017 Event ?

The theme as mentioned at the top of this blog post is “Open the Doors”, it was chosen after we decided on the events’ structure and activities were laid out when we looked at the primary costs involved. Our venue has been so generous to us in terms of costs that we can run the market, games, and ritual for a very low price and as such Gliding Seal Events Inc. Will wear that cost to make this a “free” event for people to attend, hence we Open the Doors for everyone interested.

Why is Free in quotes ?

So if you want to bring a packed lunch, have your own water and drinks, and don’t buy anything at the market and leave after the main ritual the event will be free for you. But we do have some other things happening on the day that will cost us and we are passing those costs on.

Okay so what costs what ?

Firstly our traditional sausage sizzle lunch is part of the costs of a gathering and will be included if you purchase any other ticket mentioned below, however if you are just staying to the ritual you will have the ability to purchase a voucher for lunch which will include sausage sizzle (vegan and vegetarian options will be available) plus salad, a can of soft drink and an ice cream cone on the day. These vouchers can also be pre-purchased and in doing so will help with our catering numbers, vouchers are to be collected on the day.

Normally after our main Beltane ritual, when the maypole has been crowed, we exit the circle space to a feast. We have been blessed to have fantastic catering at the last four (4) Gliding Seal Events Inc. gatherings and we expect the same again so if you want to join us for a feast after the ritual then this will cost us, so we are passing that cost on.

Because Gliding Seal Events Inc. promotes the responsible use of alcohol we also have the option for people to sleep for the night at the venue. This incurs a cost from the venue and Gliding Seal Event Inc. will be passing that cost on as well. We will also provide a light breakfast Sunday morning.

Lastly, there will be an option for volunteers and market stall holders who want to get an early start on things to stay at the venue on Friday night after 7:00pm, there will be no dinner provided due to the lateness of arrivals but we will provide a light breakfast Saturday morning before the Market Stall.

Isn’t the markets on a Sunday normally

Yes it is, but as this is going to be a one day event, I have replaced the Saturday morning workshops with the markets then by 2:00pm we will move into the Beltane games that will help us choose the King and Queen for the ritual.

What’s your goal for the weekend ?

Our goal is two fold. One is to give an event to the loyal people who have been coming to Gliding Seal Events Inc. Beltane gatherings since they were started them in 2014. But also this will, more that the original market day idea bring people to the event to see why happens, and maybe get more people to come in 2018, be it on single day tickets or for longer.
