Druids Down Under National Gathering (DDUNG)
Druids Down Under began as a networking group on Facebook in 2007. It has steadily grown since then creating a community of over 2000 people online. Public seasonal rituals have also been a part of the group’s function in the Sydney area, though members of the group online come from all over the country, and there are even some international members. The focus of the group has always been to create a space for people studying different forms of Druidry to discuss how to adapt their practice to the Australian environment, and this event will allow people to do that face to face in a supportive community group.
Druidry is a modern spiritual path that takes its inspiration from the Druids of the ancient Celtic people of Europe. ‘Druid’ can be interpreted as meaning ‘the wisdom of the trees’ and so our practice is intimately linked with nature, the seasons, and the flora and fauna of our land. Druids Down Under National Gathering will bring together many different ways that people around the country are working with these ideas and how the relate to their local landscapes.
The weekend’s activities will include a series of workshops on different kinds of Australian Druidry, meditations and nature walks, creative spaces for exploring Awen (an important idea in Druidry which is the flow of the creative spirit through us) in art, poetry, music and more. On the Saturday night we will have a ritual ceremony in an Australian Druidry style that will bring together ideas from people in many of the different Druidry traditions. This will be followed by a special feast dinner and entertainment from Spiral Dance and KC Guy. Friday and Sunday we will have a bardic circle, and on Sunday there will be a market for all our creative people to share their work.
There is no pre-requisite to have membership in any of the orders of Druidry. All are welcome. Those new to Druidry are encouraged to come along and experience what it is all about and meet some people from the different groups.
There are various ticketing options for the event, depending on whether you’d like to come just for the day, or if you’d like to stay for the whole weekend. Accommodation is either dorm or camping with some private rooms available for family groups. The event is fully catered and any food requirements can be accommodated.
We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
